DINERS at McDonald's restaurants may in the future find their receipt includes not only the total price of their meal,but also the total number of calories they are about to eat,executives from the company told MPs yesterday.

The idea is one of a number of initiatives being considered by the hamburger chain worldwide to increase consumer awareness of healthy eating, said McDonald's UK vice-president for corporate affairs Julian Hilton-Johnson.

He told the House of Commons Food Information Committee that since introducing its Salad Plus range in March in response to consumer demand, McDonald's had sold 3.5million main-meal salads and 410,000 side-salads.

The range had turned McDonald's into the UK's third-biggest seller of salad in just three months from a standing start.
