Big City Radio Signs Agreements to Capitalize on Another Chicago Opportunity; Company Moves to Establish a Second Set of Synchronized Radio Stations In Chicago Market.


NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 1998--Big City Radio, Inc. (YFM YFM Yorkshire Fund Managers (UK) :Amex) today announced the signing of agreements to acquire Chicago area radio stations which will be engineered using the Company's Synchronized Total Market Coverage technology (STMC STMC Scrap Tire Management Council

) to create Big City Radio's second set of radio stations in the Chicago market. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Upon completion of the acquisition, Big City Radio's second set of Chicago stations will be synchronized on Chicago's 92.7 FM frequency and, after the complete implementation of the Company's STMC technology, will broadcast to over 90% of Chicago's Arbitron population. Big City Radio already owns and operates Chicago's "Classic Pop" formatted station "FM103.1, Chicago - Heart and Soul", which is in the process of undergoing STMC implementation, and should broadcast to over 90% of Chicago's Arbitron population in the near future. Arbitron is considered a leading independent provider of radio station ratings to the advertising community.

Michael Kakoyiannis, President and Chief Executive Officer of Big City Radio, said "These acquisitions, in conjunction with our already existing Chicago properties, will enable Big City Radio to further leverage ratings and revenue in the third largest radio market in America." The Chicago area radio stations that agreed to be acquired are WCBR-FM, Arlington Heights Arlington Heights, village (1990 pop. 75,460), Cook county, NE Ill., a residential suburb of Chicago; founded 1836, inc. 1887. Its manufactures include machinery, drugs and medical equipment, and metal fabrication. Arlington Park racetrack is there. , IL; WLRT-FM, Kankakee, IL; and WDEK-FM/WLBK-AM, DeKalb, IL. Big City Radio expects to own these stations upon receipt of FCC (1) (Federal Communications Commission, Washington, DC, www.fcc.gov) The U.S. government agency that regulates interstate and international communications including wire, cable, radio, TV and satellite. The FCC was created under the U.S.  approval.

Big City Radio, Inc. acquires radio broadcast properties in or adjacent to major metropolitan markets and utilizes innovative engineering techniques and low-cost, ratings-driven operating strategies to develop these properties into successful metropolitan radio stations.
