Big Blue Adventure Series Announces Winter Events.

TAHOE CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 2004

Adventure racing continues to rise in popularity and in the world-renowned winter playground of Lake Tahoe it was only a matter of time before snow-inspired events began popping up. The Big Blue Adventure Series, the first to bring adventure racing to Lake Tahoe in 2002, has expanded its 2004 roster to include winter competitions. The series will kick off Saturday, February 28 with the Tahoe Winter Blue Adventure Race at Northstar-at-Tahoe in Truckee, followed by the Nevada SnowMaster Adventure Race Saturday, March 27 at Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park Coordinates:  Lake Tahoe-Nevada State Park is a Nevada state park located in western Nevada.  and hosted by the Spooner Lake Cross Country Ski area.

Adventure racing, defined as a multi-discipline competition, can include any myriad of tasks. Winter disciplines will include backcountry back·coun·try

Additionally, backcountry safety is incorporated into the contest as participants are timed using avalanche transceivers Avalanche transceivers are a class of radio transceivers specialized to the purpose of finding people or equipment buried under snow. They are variously called "ARVAs" (Appareil de Recherche de Victimes en Avalanche, in French), “avalanche beacons” or “avalanche  to locate transceivers that are buried in a snowfield.

"Lake Tahoe and the Sierra are idyllic locations for winter adventure races. Combining a variety of alpine and Nordic disciplines, map and compass skills and avalanche/backcountry safety will offer participants a fun and rewarding racing experience."

Finish times for all races are expected to range from four to seven hours. Participants can race in teams of two, three or four in any combination of same-sex or co-ed.
