It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of District continues to seek bids for the initiation of the Westhampton Interim Storm Damage Reduction project. The firm selected to do the work will have 540 days to complete initial construction once Notice to Proceed has been issued. This interim storm damage protection project calls for reconstruction of the beach and dune dune, mound or ridge of wind-blown sand formed in arid regions and along coasts. Dunes are common in most of the great deserts of the world. Often a dune begins to form because material is deposited by the wind as it encounters a bush, a rock, or other obstacle to west of the groin field from approximately 130 feet south of the center of Dune Road to the Atlantic Ocean Atlantic Ocean [Lat.,=of Atlas], second largest ocean (c.31,800,000 sq mi/82,362,000 sq km; c.36,000,000 sq mi/93,240,000 sq km with marginal seas). Physical Geography Extent and Seas at an initial cost of between $25-30 million. The project also provides for renourishment of the beach for a period of 30 years. The project consists of re-establishing a beach to the west of the westernmost groin at an elevation of 9.5 feet above sea level, backed by a dune rising to 15 feet above sea level. Fourteen acres of beach grass along the dune will also be placed. The plan also includes shortening of the two westernmost groins and the construction of a new groin between them. In addition, the compartments between groins, from the seventh groin from the east end westward to the 15th, and last, groin will be filled with sand.
