Bids sought for Newmarket mill redevelopment.The Newmarket Newmarket, town (1991 pop. 15,861), Suffolk, E England. It has been a horse-racing center since early in the 17th cent. There are four principal races: the One Thousand Guineas, the Two Thousand Guineas, the Cambridgeshire, and the Cesarewitch. Community Development Corp. has issued a request for proposals to redevelop re·de·vel·op v. re·de·vel·oped, re·de·vel·op·ing, re·de·vel·ops v.tr. 1. To develop (something) again. 2. the former Essex Mills complex. Up for bid are two lots totaling about 2-1/2 acres. Two additional parcels, smaller and located across the street from the mills, are also offered for sale and redevelopment in conjunction with the property, but developers are not required to purchase those parcels. The redevelopment is estimated to cost upwards of $20 million. Built in the early 1800s, the granite granite, coarse-grained igneous rock of even texture and light color, composed chiefly of quartz and feldspars. It usually contains small quantities of mica or hornblende, and minor accessory minerals may be present. buildings range from four to six stories tall and include about 180,000 square feet of interior space. Consultant Steve Cecil, of The Cecil Group in Boston, has been working with the town on the redevelopment project. In the fall, he said Newmarket should be a favorable fa·vor·a·ble adj. 1. Advantageous; helpful: favorable winds. 2. Encouraging; propitious: a favorable diagnosis. 3. location for developers, but added the future of the mills depends on what proposals are received. Proposals are due April 16. The NCDC expects to announce the winning proposals in June.
