Bid to end long work hours fails; EUROPE.


BRITAIN'S long-hours culture will stay after a lastditch EU effort to impose limits failed yesterday.

Ministers celebrated after keeping the UK's optout from European parliament regulations imposing a maximum 48-hour week.

Euro MPs had voted to apply it to all members but talks on phasing in broke down yesterday.

Employment minister Pat McFadden Pat McFadden may refer to:

 said it was right cash-strapped staff should be free to do overtime.
