Bid to bring steam boat back home.

THE last steam boat built in North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  should be returned home from South America to become a tourist attraction.

RH Carr is believed to be the last vessel built by J Crichton and Co in 1927 at their Saltney yard in Flintshire but now resides in British Guyana.

Saltney Coun Klaus Armstrong-Braun has written to Flintshire Chief Executive Colin Everett to ask him to explore how to bring the boat home.

"The SS RH Carr is languishing lan·guish

in British Guyana on the Demarara river and in the interests of Flintshire and Saltney's rich living history this boat, in consultation with the council, business, lottery funding, CADW CADW Civil Air Defense Warning , British Heritage and other organisations, should be brought back to Flintshire.

"If it could not be located on the River Dee at Saltney Ferry, it could be located at Connah's Quay dock as it would be a great tourist attraction for the area.

This would require the co-operation and focus of many other groups and organisations.

A spokesman for Flintshire said: "Unfortunately we are not in a position to lead on such a project at this time. However should we be approached by a local interest group interested in taking the idea forward we could help such a group to investigate feasibility.
