Bid considered.

Bid Considered: Despite calling his bid a "longshot," Chicago real estate magnate Sam Zell emerged as the leading contender to buy Tribune Co., parent company of the L.A. Times. Zell's bid is getting serious consideration because it can sever the relationship between the media giant and the disgruntled Chandler family as well as take the company private, reports said. Zell's worth is estimated at $4.5 billion.
