This text is obviously very specific but it contains 633 references dating from 1855 to 1989. It lists all known documents and commercial products in chronological order. Many document types are included. These are taken from both published and unpublished sources, original interviews and partial translations of Japanese and European works. Around two thirds of the references featured contain a summary or abstract running to some 70 words. The text also details 176 commercial soy products so that the product's name is provided, its date of introduction, the name and address of the manufacturer and usually an ingredients list, the weight, the type of packaging used, the storage requirements, nutritional composition, etc.

It can at once be seen that the information provided is pretty comprehensive. Details as to exactly how one uses the bibliography are given and the publishers have included a complete subject index and a geographical one.
