(ENI)--More than 40 botanical gardens A botanical garden is a place where plants, especially ferns, conifers and flowering plants, are grown and displayed for the purposes of research, conservation, and education.  run by churches and groups throughout Germany are inviting visitors to get to know the 120 flowers, bushes and trees mentioned in the Bible.

"We want to attract both Christians and lay people," said Maik Foerster, head of the Christian association that runs the Oberlichtenau garden near Dresden which opened in 2005. "If you see, smell or hold things mentioned in the Bible for real it is much easier to read the Bible." Plants mentioned in the Bible include juniper juniper, any tree or shrub of the genus Juniperus, aromatic evergreens of the family Cupressaceae (cypress family), widely distributed over the north temperate zone. Many are valuable as a source of lumber and oil. , cedar, figs, almonds, hyssop hyssop (hĭs`əp), aromatic, perennial, somewhat woody herb (Hyssopus officinalis) of the family Labiatae (mint family), native to the Old World but partially naturalized in North America. , pomegranates, mulberry mulberry, common name for the Moraceae, a family of deciduous or evergreen trees and shrubs, often climbing, mostly of pantropical distribution, and characterized by milky sap. Several genera bear edible fruit, e.g. , Rose-of-Sharon and vines.
