Bibby Named President of National Multi Housing Council.

Douglas M. Bibby was named President of the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC). Leonard W. Wood, Chairman of NMHC and Chairman of its Executive Search Committee, said, "I am delighted that Doug has accepted our offer. He brings a wealth of talent and experience that will serve NMHC well in its role of providing leadership for the apartment industry in the areas of public policy, strategic business information, public relations and industry research." Bibby has extensive senior management experience in human and organizational management, strategic planning, product development and media/investor relations. He spent approximately 16 years (from 1983 to 1999) with Fannie Mae in a progression of senior management jobs, including Assistant to the Chairman/ CEO; Chief Administrative Officer; Senior Vice President, Communications; and Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Training. Most recently he was President of Ardsley Consulting, LLC, a management and organizational consulting firm. "The officers of NMHC considered a variety of very promising candidates," noted Wood in making the announcement. "Doug's dynamic leadership skills and his outstanding reputation, combined with his extensive experience and his entrepreneurial attitude caught our attention. Based on Doug's long list of professional achievements, we are confident that he is the right person to continue NMHC's aggressive program of work." Bibby is a resident of Bethesda, Md., where he and his family are active in many community organizations. He serves as an Executive Officer of three non-profit boards and has been active with the Fannie Mae Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corp.

NAA/NSC member RealPage Inc. announced that Paul Mitnick, Founder and President of Practical Technologies Inc. and creator of the WIZ property management system, has joined RealPage as Chief Product Officer.

"Paul has been helping us develop OneSite for some time now, so we are pleased that he has agreed to expand that relationship and join us on a full-time basis. His knowledge of the multifamily industry and his technological expertise will be invaluable as RealPage and OneSite move forward."

As Chief Product Officer, Mitnick will oversee continued development of OneSite. Dean Schmidt, who previously headed up product management functions at RealPage, will become Chief Operating Officer responsible for all sales, marketing and customer care functions. Combined, Mitnick and Schmidt create a strong team with more than 50 years of combined experience in the multifamily housing industry.

Prior to founding Practical Technologies, Mitnick served for 11 years as President of Computech Systems Inc., the technology arm of Sam Zell's Equity Group Investments, which included Equity Residential Properties.

NAA member SureDeposit named Paul Kaliades President. As President, Kaliades will direct the effort to grow SureDeposit's acceptance nationally by continuing to infiltrate regional multifamily markets, as well as target the nation's largest apartment owners and managers with SureDeposit's innovative security deposit alternative program.

Kaliades joined SureDeposit in July 2000 as Vice President, National Sales and Marketing. Previously, he oversaw marketing and management for a portfolio of more than 70 buildings totaling 11,000 apartments located throughout New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware as Executive Vice President for The Kamson Corp. While at Kamson, he received the New Jersey Apartment Association's (NJAA) 1996 Distinguished Owner of the Year Award, among others. From 1997 to 1999, Kaliades served as NJAA president.

Kaliades has also been actively involved in NAA, where he has served on the Legislative and Budget Committees, acted as a Region II delegate for five years, and played an integral part in NAA's Annual Capital Conference in Washington D.C. In addition to working with the New Jersey State Senate and House of Representatives to explore issues relative to the success and health of the apartment industry, Kaliades was appointed by New Jersey's Former Governor Whitman to the Landlord-Tenant Task Force, which was established to analyze and improve the environment between property owners, residents, legislators and governments.

To meet the growing demand for its multifamily products and services HandySource announced it opened a regional office in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. To manage the new office HandySource named Melissa Steinkamp Regional Manager, Client Services. Steinkamp is a 10-year veteran of the property management industry. Previously, she worked for McNeil Real Estate Management and Archon Management Services as National System Trainer, and for RealPage Inc., where she was responsible for software sales and client account management. In her new position with Handy Source, Steinkamp is responsible for maintaining relations with existing clients, forging relationships with new customers as well as training clients on the HandySource Web site.

Done Deals

NAA member Kushner Cos., based in Florham Park, N.J., has acquired 76 Market Street Apartments, LLC, a 48-unit apartment building located in Perth Amboy, N.J. In the $2 million transaction, Kushner Cos. purchased the property from Market-High Associates, based in Elizabeth, N.J. The five-story Market Street property contains a mix of studio, one-and two-bedroom apartment homes, with laundry facilities located in the basement. Kushner Cos. plans to enhance the design and improve the operational efficiency of the building, which was constructed in 1955. Immediate renovations will include window replacements, interior lighting upgrades and interior painting, as well as a new awning for the entryway. All 48 apartments are currently leased.
