BiTMICRO NETWORKS and Dy 4 Systems Collaborate in VME Mass Storage Flash Memory Module's E-Disk Technology Implementation.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 29, 2001

BiTMICRO NETWORKS, Inc., a pioneer in intelligent storage, and Dy 4 Systems, Inc., a leader in leading-edge embedded solutions, joined hands in the integration of BiTMICRO's E-Disk(TM) technology in Dy 4's ruggedized SVME/DMV-570 Flash Non-volatile Memory Refers to memory chips that hold their content without power being applied. It may refer to chips that are not changeable, such as ROMs and PROMs, or to chips that can be rewritten many times such as flash memory.  Module.

"We are pleased to have partnered with BiTMICRO in delivering our first VME-570 based on their leading-edge solid-state E-Disk technology," commented Nigel Eastman, Dy 4's program manager. "Through our combined efforts, we cut our time to market significantly allowing us to meet and deliver the best-in-class nonvolatile storage Noun 1. nonvolatile storage - computer storage that is not lost when the power is turned off

needs to our customers," added Eastman.

Dy 4's SVME/DMV-570 provides the ideal high-capacity solution in a single VME bus See VMEbus.  slot. It's ideal for harsh and rugged applications where large amounts of non-volatile, mass memory are required to store theatre area maps, video/satellite imagery and data base records. By integrating E-Disk technology to the SVME/DMV-570, Dy 4 solves the performance, environmental conditions, mechanical ruggedness, reliability limitations and heat generation problems of rotating mass media devices.

The SVME/DMV-570 exploits the mechanical ruggedness, environmental resilience, low power consumption, low heat generation and reliability of E-Disk solid-state non-volatile memory, thus avoiding the need for shock and vibration isolators and environmental enclosures that would be required for rotating media mass storage devices.

VME-570 is air-cooled and conduction cooled for harsh and rugged applications. It is offered with 128 Mbytes to 5.12 Gbytes of non-volatile Flash memory in a single VMEbus slot. It supports multiple boards per system for modular memory expansion. It demonstrates sustained read/write transfer rates of 10 MB/sec and less than 1 ms random access time. It is capable of fast erase -- 2 sec/Gbyte typical.

With a bit error rate of less than 10 to the minus 30 coupled with the ease of use, the SVME/DMV-570 can be embedded directly in a VME (Virtual Machine Environment) An operating system from Fujitsu Services (formerly ICL) that runs on its Series 39 mainframes. Introduced in 1975, VME is a comprehensive product that provides a variety of utilities for datacenter operations.  chassis with total confidence. It complies with ANSI (American National Standards Institute, New York, www.ansi.org) A membership organization founded in 1918 that coordinates the development of U.S. voluntary national standards in both the private and public sectors. It is the U.S. member body to ISO and IEC.  SCSI-2 and SCSI-1 Standard Protocols. No special drivers are required as it uses existing VxWorks(R) and SCSI SCSI

 drivers.

Other VME-570 features include host-transparent wear-leveling, Built-In Test (BIT), 3 W to 12 W max power dissipation (depending on capacity), 10 year data integrity, optional power hold up to insure all data in the cache are stored into the flash memory without being lost or corrupted.

"As data storage requirements have grown in size and complexity, storage is more than just strategic direction to our customers, it's business critical," said Dave Bultman, VP of Engineering and Operations for BiTMICRO. "That is why we continuously increase our commitment to flash storage technology and innovative storage implementation that sets new standards in delivering highly available and reliable storage solutions to our customers."

In addition to E-Disks with SCSI interface SCSI interface - SCSI adaptor , BiTMICRO offers IDE and Fibre Channel as well. They are available from 128Mbytes up to 37Gbytes in 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch form factors.
