Beyond.com Unveils National Advertising Campaign To Launch New Brand.

Simultaneously, the company announced it changed its name from Software.net to Beyond.com and enhanced its web site (http://www.beyond.com) to give people a better way to buy software.

The advertising campaign, the first in the 4-year-old company's history, is one of several initiatives being announced today to make Beyond.com the brand of choice for people who buy software.

"Most companies doing business on the Internet still rely on age-old marketing principles in this new, emerging environment," said Brian Sroub, vice-president of marketing at Beyond.com. "With our new ad campaign, and redesigned web site, we are striving to deliver a level of helpfulness to our customers that is beyond what most people have come to expect when they shop on the Internet."

To promote the launch, Beyond.com unveiled a free, software giveaway for the first 250,000 people who visit the new web site. The company will give away "ShortCuts See Win Shortcuts. " by Kiss Publishing, which has a retail value of $29.95 and lets people assign their favorite web site addresses to the function keys on their keyboard.

Sroub said Beyond.com chose to use simple, straightforward language and imagery in the advertising and throughout the web site in response to customers who, during focus groups, said they longed for an easy and pleasant software-buying experience.

The campaign launches this week and includes TV, radio and print ads in national and leading Internet markets. Over the next six weeks, the company will also run an aggressive ad banner See banner ad.  campaign on heavily trafficked Internet sites, including AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services. , Excite, Yahoo! and ZDNet.
