Pettitt co-founded Beyond.com in 1994 and has more than 20 years of experience in the computer, communications and e-commerce services industries.

Pettitt and his wife, Linda Morgan Linda Morgan (born 1942 in Mexico City, Mexico), now known as Linda Hardberger, became known as the "miracle girl" following the collision of two large passenger ships in the North Atlantic Ocean on the foggy night of July 25,1956.  Pettitt, created CloudView Foundation, which makes grants in a number of Bay Area sectors including: short term emergency funds for charities, community police relations, and mentoring programs for the homeless and others re-entering society.

Pettitt's appointment makes him the fifth member of the Beyond.com board of directors. Other members include Chairman Bill McKiernan, co-founder of Beyond.com and president and CEO of CyberSource Corporation; Director Ron Smith, president and CEO of Beyond.com; Director Mark W. Bailey, CEO of WebPartner; and, Director Richard Scudellari, partner at Morrison & Foerster LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol .
