, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 1996--National Semiconductor today announced the resignation of Richard Beyer as executive vice president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

. Beyer has stated his desire to "run my own shop.

"The best way to accomplish this goal is to actively pursue it," Beyer said. "That would force me to give less than 100 percent to my job at National, which would be unfair to the company, its shareholders and its employees." Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Brian Halla, who was named to his post on May 3, said he was "disappointed to be losing Rich, but I respect and understand his decision. Beyer has served as executive vice president and chief operating officer of National since June 1995. Prior to that assignment, he had been president of the company's Communications and Computing computing - computer  Group. He joined National in 1993.
