Beverley: McInnes and Ffrench come in from the cold.

Byline: er: Tom O'Ryan

WHO cares about modest prize-money when there's the chance of a winner?

Quite a few, probably, but not Royston Ffrench, who yesterday erased e·rase

his name from the `cold jockeys' list with a treble treble, highest part in choral music, thus corresponding in pitch to soprano, but associated with the voice of a boy or a girl. The term appeared in 15th-century English polyphony, probably as an anglicization of the Latin triplum,  at this Regional Racing fixture, or indeed Ian McInnes, who remarkably elevated himself out of the `cold trainers' table with a double strike, supplemented by another success at Carlisle.

McInnes, who had a total of six runners - "half my yard!" - at three different meetings, was almost speechless after Molotov had provided the final leg of his winning cocktail, all three winners being owned by the Ivy House Racing partnership.

"A treble is something you dream about. I've never even had a double before - the nearest I've got was a winner and a second - and I can't believe it," said McInnes, who is based just five miles away.

"What makes it even better is having two winners at my local course. It's just fantastic, a day to remember," he added, before departing to saddle his final two runners at Thirsk's evening fixture.

While Molotov won the five-furlong dash by three-parts of a length in the hands of Ffrench, it was much tighter in the seven-furlong maiden MAIDEN. The name of an instrument formerly used in Scotland for beheading criminals.  in which Shamwari Fire - McInnes's first winner after 47 losers, spanning more than four months - gained his first win at the 21st attempt when short-heading Time To Regret in the last stride under a never-say-die ride.

"He's had his share of problems and has taken time to get right," said McInnes, who explained: "Molotov has always had problems with his joints, - but both of them are obviously all right again now!"

Ffrench, who had previously endured a winnerless three weeks and 36 mounts, initiated his own 938-1 treble with a well-judged ride on Sennen Cove This article is about the popular surfing beach Sennen Cove, for the village and parish see Sennen

Ffrench's only disappointment was in picking up a two-day ban for careless careless adj., adv. 1) negligent. 2) the opposite of careful. A careless act can result in liability for damages to others. whether he would prefer it to run on June 4-5, when the Oaks and Derby take place.

Bill Tinning, who has only four horses in training at his base near Malton, was on the mark with Life Is Beautiful, who responded well to Robert Winston's urgings to justify favouritism in the

mile-and-a-half contest.

Tinning owns the five-year-old, now a four-time winner here, in partnership with his wife Jenny, to whom he credited this win, and indeed all of the stable's success. "It's Jenny who does all the work," he stressed. "I've offered her the licence, but she's refused it!"

The following ten-furlong race went to the Stan Moore-trained Larad, nicely handled by 7lb claimer Derek Nolan, who joined Moore last month.

"Keith Stone, Easterby's representative, said: "Paul has been riding out for us for a few months and I'm pleased for him that he's had a winner."
