Notes: This amount is calculated by subtracting the following items from gross sales: merchandise returned for credit, allowances for damaged or missing goods, freight totalling $5.0 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 1996 vs. $3.3 million in last year's second quarter, an increase of 52.8 percent. Gross profit for the period was $1,071,000 or 22 percent of sales, compared with a gross profit of $500,000 or 16 percent of sales for 1995. Gross profit for the period increased 114 percent compared with last year's second quarter. Total operating expenses Operating expenses The amount paid for asset maintenance or the cost of doing business, excluding depreciation.
