N7258

This volume is in honor of Revel-Neher (retired, art history, Hebrew U.) for her contributions to the field of medieval Jewish art with a special emphasis on the Byzantine period. Kogman- Appel (Ben-Gurion U. of the Negev, Beer Sheva) and Meyer (Open U. of Israel), former students of hers, overview her career and her innovative work, e.g., The Image of the Jew in Byzantine Art (1992). Contributors to 19 essays treat topics relating to her interests including: the representation of God in art (e.g., the synagogue mosaics discovered at Sepphoris, Christian representations of Jews, Christian and Jewish interpretative imagery of biblical narratives, and the illustration of particular Hebrew manuscripts. A 94-page b&w illustration section concludes this volume of exemplary quality.
