Better leadership; LETTERS to the EDITOR.


KEITH WYNESS calls for better political leadership of Liverpool (Daily Post, May 15) and it is hard to disagree. The Liberal Democrats took power with a massive majority and, like Labour nationally, have squandered squan·der

 that majority and now cling on by their collective finger nails.

Unlike Labour, however, they have not had the disadvantage of being in power nationally and suffering the usual mid-term blu es.

How could a party which has never been in power at national level be left barely in control after such a landslide landslide, rapid slipping of a mass of earth or rock from a higher elevation to a lower level under the influence of gravity and water lubrication. More specifically, rockslides are the rapid downhill movement of large masses of rock with little or no hydraulic flow,  start? Sadly, we all know the answer: the shambles over the Mathew Street Mathew Street is a famous street in Liverpool, England, probably most well-known for being the location of the Cavern Club, where The Beatles played many concerts early in their career. Mathew Street is located in an area of Liverpool city centre known today as "The Cavern Quarter".  Festival, warfare within the Lib-Dems, defections of t h e i r own councillors, the squabbling between David Henshaw and Mike Storey; and finally confirmation of Liverpool as the worst performing local authority in the country by the Audit Commission.

In May next year, the people of Liverpool have the opportunity to pass final judgment on what has been a sorry state of affairs.

Hopefully, they will do just that.
