Bethlehem University Celebrates Naming of the Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub Faculty of Business Administration.

PNN On Saturday morning, 12 May 2012, Bethlehem University named and blessedthe Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub Faculty of Business Administration, named in honor of the late son ofMr. Ibrahim S. Dabdoub, Group CEO of the National Bank of Kuwait (NBK). The Dabdoub familyand Bethlehem University officials hosted many prominent leaders in the Palestinian and internationalcommunity who gathered to celebrate the blessing and inauguration of the newly named faculty,including Dr. Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister of Palestine, and Archbishop Antonio Franco, ApostolicDelegate to Jerusalem and Palestine and Chancellor of Bethlehem University. The Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub Faculty of Business Administration is Bethlehem University's first everrecipient of a major individual gift, bestowed in honor of Mr. Shucri Dabdoub, who passed awayunexpectedly in 2010 while in Spain with his wife. Mr. and Mrs. Ibrahim Dabdoub, both Bethlehemnatives, feel strongly about preserving their son's memory and supporting higher education in the placeof their heritage and primary education. "Business is my life and education is my passion," Mr. Dabdoub said. "It is also fitting that this faculty,a place of learning, inside the institution and the City that hold [Shucri's] roots, will be a focal point ofteaching and preparing young people to pursue a path in Shucri's footsteps. My wife, daughter and Icould find no better way to honor the memory of our beloved late son than to give the young men andwomen in Palestine an opportunity to obtain a first rate business education and thus the opportunity toimprove their lives." Bethlehem University was Palestine's first university and the area's only Catholic institution of higherlearning. This gesture of such prominent support validates the excellent reputation of the University'sFaculty of Business Administration, unarguably one of the most competitive in the region, says BrotherPeter Bray, Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University. "The Dadboub family's contribution to Bethlehem University signals to us and the world that thiscampus, which began as a high school where Ibrahim himself began his education, has the formulaneeded for young Palestinians to transform themselves and the world," Brother Bray said. "Ibrahim'sleadership in the business world, especially in Kuwait, has been consistently credited as helping to steerthe Kuwaiti economy in a positive direction." Dr. Fadi Kattan, Dean of the Shucri Ibrahim Dabdoub Faculty of Business Administration and 1990graduate of Bethlehem University, has witnessed the growth of Bethlehem University and the vital roleit plays in Palestine and throughout the world. "We come here for the chance to learn, to teach, to listen, and to be heard," Dr. Kattan said. "We come... to broaden our horizons, to sharpen our vision, to enlarge our hearts, and to train our minds to solveproblems and confront the challenges before us. We come to discover that which inspires us, to findwhat motivates us, and to connect our personal passions to a larger community interest. Palestinian officials have stressed the need for increased support for Bethlehem University, especiallythroughout the Arab world. Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad commended Bethlehem University and the Dabdoub family for their dedication to developing higher education in Palestine. The naming event also demonstrates how the Bethlehem University community unites to transcend thedifficulties and challenges of life, and transform these challenges into constructive forces for change. Mr.Dabdoub described the painful experience of losing a son, saying, "It leaves a void in one's heart. Thememory is forever present in one's mind.
