Festival. Now Bethel wants in on the fun. Saturday marks the first of what organizers hope will be a yearly event: the We Are Bethel Celebration. The daylong festival will be held at the Petersen Barn Community Center on Berntzen Road. The cost for the party is covered by a U.S. Department of Justice grant designed to lower crime and improve community connections, said Lorna Flormoe, grant coordinator. Bethel is one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in Eugene, but drug trafficking and juvenile crime have moved in with the growth, Flormoe said. The Weed and Seed grant supports community policing, prevention and intervention programs, Flormoe said, and Saturday's event falls under the intervention category.
