Bethany Hamilton to Visit Phuket, Thailand, with World Vision; Will Visit Recovering Communities and Surf for Children.


SEATTLE -- World Vision and 15-year-old surfing phenomenon Bethany Hamilton Bethany Meilani Hamilton (born February 8, 1990) is an American surfer. She is known for surviving a shark attack in which she lost her left arm, and for overcoming the serious and debilitating injury to return to surfing.  will join together to highlight post-tsunami development in Phuket, Thailand, August 27-31. In addition to meeting children and families being served by World Vision in the hardest hit communities, Bethany will participate in a surfing exhibition and share her personal story of overcoming tragedy.

In 2003, Bethany lost her left arm and nearly her life in a shark attack off the north coast of Kauai. After courageously adapting to her new physical reality, Bethany returned to surfing competitively and now enjoys the additional role of public speaking and writing about faith, family, and determination.

Bethany's visit will include a range of activities that demonstrate human triumph over adversity ad·ver·si·ty
