Bestfoods Elects Ramsay Corporate Vice President.


ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 24, 1998-- Bestfoods announced that Ian Ramsay Professor Ian Ramsay (born 1958) is the director of the Center for Corporate Law and Securities Regulation at the University of Melbourne in Melbourne, Australia. He is a lawyer, author, and prominent media commentator on corporate law and securities law issues in Australia. , who was recently appointed president, European operations, has been elected a corporate vice president by the Bestfoods Board of Directors.

Mr. Ramsay, 58, is responsible for Bestfoods' operations in 21 countries of Western, Central, and Eastern Europe Eastern Europe

The countries of eastern Europe, especially those that were allied with the USSR in the Warsaw Pact, which was established in 1955 and dissolved in 1991.
. Bestfoods Europe, which also includes operations in Africa and the Middle East, is the company's largest division, with sales last year of $3.5 billion. Mr. Ramsay continues to report to Alain Labergere, Bestfoods executive vice president and president, Bestfoods Europe.

Previously, Mr. Ramsay had been senior vice president, finance and human resources The fancy word for "people." The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees.  for Bestfoods Europe. He joined the company in the United Kingdom in 1963 and progressed through positions of increasing responsibility in the technical, sales, and operations functions. He was appointed general manager of the U.K. affiliate in 1992 and senior vice president, finance and human resources for the division in 1997.
