I MUST take issue with Mr Gray, of Motherwell, regarding democracy. In this country we elect MPs to look after our interests.

They, in turn, elect leaders of their various parties. The leader of the largest party (usually) becomes Prime Minister. If the members of a party don't like what a leader is doing, he can be, and often is, replaced. That's how it works here, and referenda are not a normal part of our democratic system.
