Owner and founder Art Matthews considered closing Music Emporium when he moved into the radio business, but the community protested. Matthews' daughter Aislinn Webb took over, and the store continues to thrive as a neighborhood establishment. Much of Music Emporium is the same as it was in 1979, when Art Matthews first hung posters on the wood and burlap walls and ceiling of the corner building. Those posters are still there, as are the old wooden CD bins that once held record albums. And people still sign their names on the counters. In fact, people who signed the counters as children now bring their children back to add a new generation to the signatures. The store is a "throwback throwback see atavism. to the '60s," according to Aislinn. In addition to CDs, the shop also sells clothes, posters, oils, and incense.
