TWO mums are stepping out in the business world - selling children's shoes to help raise hundreds of pounds for local schools.

Kirsty Vickerman and Vanessa Taylor, who both live in Netherton, have set up Shoes to Schools.

They decided to act after Vanessa had problems finding well-fitting, good quality and affordable shoes for her daughter.

At the same time, their local school, Netherton Infant School, was busy raising funds for new playground equipment.

Now the two friends are running a scheme to take their stock of shoes into schools, play gyms and nurseries.

For every pair of children's shoes sold, a percentage of the price goes to towards much-needed books, toys and equipment.

Said Vanessa: "By selling children's footwear direct through schools and play gyms in Kirklees, we are helping raise much-needed funds as well as providing a convenient and easy way for parents to buy shoes.

"The shoes range from well-known brand Kickers to well-made, competitively-priced shoes from Italy, Portugal and Spain."

Kirsty and Vanessa are staging "shoe workshops" at several venues during the summer - including Netherthon Community Centre, The Fun Factory at Linthwaite, Safari Sams in Waterloo, Honley Pheonix Squash Club, Leapfrogs in Skelmanthorpe and The Magical Forest, at Marsh.
