The Keswick Vineyards 2002 Estate Reserve Viognier was awarded the best wine in its category, surpassing many well-known wines from the major wine-producing states. The award was one of six category awards at the 21-year-old event, which drew more than 1,100 entries from 14 states of the U.S. and 12 foreign countries. All summit wines are judged "blind," grouped into more than 200 categories by specific grape types and price ranges and countries of origin. Each wine is judged against the best standards for that category.

"We're just delighted to introduce our first wine this way," said Keswick Vineyards owner Al Schornberg. "While many may be surprised that the best white wine award wasn't given to a California winery, Virginia's wine industry has been flourishing flour·ish
