" sound card, announced Wednesday, collects the leading audio technologies from more than a half dozen sources to deliver high-fidelity sound for movie and music lovers -- and especially for 3D gamers.

The result is 2, 4, or 6 speaker surround sound that can re-create up to 128 instruments or sound effect sources, with every instrument positioned in the music hall or every audio source placed in its 3D playing environment with pinpoint accuracy.

Among Theatrix(TM)'s many resources are:

-- A Fortemedia 810 audio processor chipset with Aureal 3D hardware

accelerator and wavetracing software for environmental sound

effects -- Qsound 2.0 technology for 3D sound positioning -- DirectSound 3D audio processing accelerator with CreativeLabs(TM)

EAX (Environmental Audio Extensions) Sound card functions that reproduce the reverberation effects heard in different environments.
