Why: As a partner in its communities, Best Buy is committed to
environmental responsibility. Some electronic items can
contain materials such as lead and mercury that may be
harmful to the environment if simply thrown in the trash.
This program provides consumers with a convenient, simple
and safe way to recycle their household electronics.
The company was the first national consumer electronics
retailer to sponsor recycling events, and has recycled more
nearly 3 million pounds of old electronics since the program
          began in 2001.

Additionally, kiosks for recycling cell phones, rechargeable
batteries, and ink jet cartridges are available at Best Buy stores
throughout California. For more information, visit
