Take Mom to the gardens at Shore Acres State Park south of Charleston on Mother's Day for the annual Rhododendron Sunday. The rhodies will be in their full glory, the Garden House will offer refreshments and an exhibit from the Bay Area Artists Association, and rhododendron experts will be on hand to answer questions about the colorful plants. The only cost is a $3 per vehicle parking fee.

For a good time Saturday night, plan to take in the Jasper Jamboree, a free night that will include dinner, music, drama and prizes starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Jasper Grange, one-quarter mile east of the Jasper Store at the corner of Hills Creek and Jasper-Lowell roads. Take Mom out for a Sunday drive and country brunch at the Triangle Grange in Blachly. The Mothers' Day Breakfast, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature pancakes, eggs, sausage or ham, hash browns, milk, coffee and juice. The meal's free but donations to the Grange will be used to pay for scholarships and other community services. All cooking and serving will be done by the Grange's male members.
