According to Michael J. Daley, vice president and chief
financial officer, "Due to the nature of the project development
business, quarterly results of operations may fluctuate
significantly. During the three months ended Sept. 30, 1996, the
company realized net income of approximately $77,000, an increase of
$1,007,000 compared to the three months ended Sept. 30, 1995. The
primary reason for this increase is the company's recording income
from partnerships of approximately $2,202,000, up from $492,000 for
the comparable prior period.
"The company's ownership stakes in power facilities are held as
partnership interests, with total partnership assets (excluding the
Allegheny project) of approximately $537,000,000 and total
partnership quarterly revenues of approximately $37,000,000. During
the second quarter of Fiscal 1997, Besicorp realized $1,902,000 in
net cash distributions from its partnership investments, up from
approximately $1,096,000 for the comparable prior period.
"The company continues to invest in solar electric development
and realized a loss in the second quarter from technology-related
activities reflecting such investment. Almost all costs associated
with these development activities, as well as a significant portion
of the costs of project development activities, are expensed on a
current basis."
Besicorp specializes in the development of independent power
projects and energy technologies.
