Berwyn Arts Council Launches First Annual Cartopia Event.
BERWYN, Ill., May 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Berwyn Arts Council announced today the launch of Cartopia, an event where artists from around the country, as well as local entrants, will be showcasing their creatively painted, sculpted, altered or decorated mobile art to the public on June 23-24, 2006.
Cartopia will kick off at Cermak Plaza (located on the corner of Harlem Ave and Cermak/22nd Street) in Berwyn, IL, on June 23rd, 2006 from 7pm-10pm with a welcome address to the artists, performances by musicians and singers, a live auction to benefit Youth in Crisis and an invitation to take the "Carbaret Tuer" of a select group of Berwyn Hot Spots. The second day of Cartopia (June 24th, 2006) will include the actual car art show exposition from 9am-5pm, also located at Cermak Plaza, as well as a 1pm ArtCar Parade through Berwyn, IL. Interested participants are still welcome to create and enter their own art car for a $20 fee. More information on Cartopia is available at http://www.berwyncartopia.com/ .
"This is an exciting event for Berwyn, Cartopia will be the newest and best Art Car show in the Midwest," said Jon Fey, lead organizer of Cartopia and executive member of the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) and Berwyn Arts Council (BAC). "It's an honor to be able to host this amazing show in such a great location where the growing Berwyn community embraces art and diversity with arms wide open. This event will be a learning experience for all, as well as beneficial in helping us raise money for charity," he added.
The art cars are permanently decorated, and many will be driven by their owners. Many cars from across the country will be featured, with dozens coming from the Chicago area alone. Since the late 1980's, art car events have been springing up all across the United States. In addition to art car parades, many art car events also include children's activities, illuminated cruises, live music, performance art and extravagant Art Car Balls.
Berwyn's Cartopia is sponsored by the Berwyn Arts Council (BAC), a commission of the Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC), located in Berwyn, IL. The Berwyn Development Corporation (BDC) includes approximately 200 local business members.
