Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele is injured.

But race chiefs say Kipyego - who won last May's Great Edinburgh Run - is coming to Scotland to lay a marker.

Organiser Andy Caine said: "Kipyego did so well on the roads last year he had no hesitation in accepting an invite to return to Edinburgh.

"We may be missing Bekele but the presence of some of Africa's top distance men is going to guarantee another great race."

Eight-time European champion Sergiy Lebid of Ukraine is desperate to end Africa's domination in Edinburgh and is in top form.

And three-time European junior champion Steph Twell will go for her first major cross-country title in the senior ranks.

The 19-year old Anglo-Scot is among 23 members of the GB team from last month's European Championship taking part, including Edinburgh's Chris O'Hare.
