LAST week we reported that David Cameron sacked Bernard Jenkin as Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party for advice he gave to an Asian candidate on his prospects of being selected as a prospective MP for Witham.

Bernard Jenkin has asked us to point out that his departure was entirely unconnected with this matter. We are happy to set the record straight.
