), effective August 1, Chief Financial Officer Richard Carbone announced today. As Treasurer, Jacob will have responsibility for the company's capital and liquidity management, corporate finance, and banking and cash management.

Jacob, who currently serves as Senior Financial Officer for Prudential's domestic individual life and annuities business, will report directly to Carbone. C. Edward "Chuck" Chaplin, who had been Prudential's Treasurer, left the company to accept the position of Chief Financial Officer at another company.

"Bernie has played a key role in directing finance activities of several Prudential businesses," Carbone said. "With his extensive experience and expertise in finance, he is certain to provide invaluable guidance and leadership in his new role. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber and insight."

Jacob joined Prudential in January 2002 as head of strategy and business development for Prudential's domestic insurance group, and assumed his current position in March 2004. Prior to joining Prudential, Jacob served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Pro-Act Technologies Corporation, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Liberty Brokerage Investment Corp., and Senior Vice President - Head of Global Mergers and Acquisitions at The Chase Manhattan Bank The Chase Manhattan Bank, now part of JPMorgan Chase, was formed by the merger of the Chase National Bank and the Bank of the Manhattan Company in 1955. Jacob earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Brandeis University Brandeis University, at Waltham, Mass.; coeducational; chartered and opened 1948.
