Berkeley Systems Names New Director of Marketing; Greg Marek Promoted From Senior Product Marketing Manager.


BERKELEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 1995--Berkeley Systems, Inc. today announced that Greg Marek, a ten year software industry veteran, has been named Director of Marketing.

Marek was previously senior product marketing manager at Berkeley Systems Berkeley Systems was a San Francisco Bay Area software company cofounded in 1987 by Wes Boyd and Joan Blades. It made money early on by doing contract work for the National Institutes of Health, specifically in making modifications to the Macintosh so that it could be usable by , directing the company's franchise business unit, which includes its best-selling After Dark(R) screen savers Screen Savers may refer to:

As Director of Marketing, Marek will oversee product marketing, channel marketing, marketing communications Marketing communications (or marcom) are messages and related media used to communicate with a market. Those who practice advertising, branding, direct marketing, graphic design, marketing, packaging, promotion, publicity, sponsorship, public relations, sales, sales , public relations public relations, activities and policies used to create public interest in a person, idea, product, institution, or business establishment. Before joining Berkeley Systems in April 1995, Marek was product marketing manager at Borland and Novell, Inc. where he launched Quattro Pro A Windows spreadsheet from Corel that provides advanced graphics and presentation capabilities, including goal seeking, 3D graphing and the ability to create multi-layered slide shows. It is optionally keystroke compatible with Lotus 1-2-3.  6.0 for Windows. Previously he was a product manager at Intuit where he launched QuickPay and QuickInvoice for Windows and helped launch Quicken for Windows. Marek began in the software industry at Oracle Corporation as a product marketing manager for the company's applications division.

Founded in 1987, Berkeley Systems, Inc. is most recognized for its widely popular, award-winning After Dark and other animated screen savers, such as The Looney Tunes(TM), The Simpsons(TM), Star Trek: The Next Generation(R) and most recently, The Totally Twisted(TM) After Dark(R) Screen Savers. The company has since diversified its catalog of entertainment titles with Expresso(TM) Calendar and Address Book, Launch Pad(TM) Kid-Safe Desktop(TM), and Triazzle(R) Living Puzzles(TM).

Berkeley also recently debuted a new pop-culture trivia game, You Don't Know Jack You Don't Know Jack is a series of computer games developed by Jellyvision and Berkeley Systems. YDKJ, promoted as the games "where high culture and pop culture collide," combine trivia with comedy. (TM), due out this October.
