and a number of families. Designed to help parents and educators decide which software programs pack the most fun and learning, The Child's Best Kid's Software Award is based on the following criteria: Is it easy to use, Is it educational, Is it interactive, Does it grow with your child, Does it have strong graphics, Does it offer open-ended play and learning opportunities, and Is it fun. Launch Pad scored high marks in every category, making it the Best All-Purpose Software for kids ages three to eight.

, with Bingo the Dog as a companion. In each land, children are invited to find the hidden, animated surprises that activate with a simple click of the mouse.

Launch Pad adapts to children's needs, by adjusting the interface to match both their age and ability. Parents can customize the program and create individual accounts for each child. If children are too young for written instructions, then Launch Pad's talking Icons and Menus will do the job for them. Pull-down menus are "sticky" to help little hands utilize them and files are saved with pictures for easy identification.

The icon pictures assist children by assigning an image to a file instead of having written text. There are talking desk accessories like KidsClock and KidsCale and Launch Pad even has a built-in tape recorder tape recorder, device for recording information on strips of plastic tape (usually polyester) that are coated with fine particles of a magnetic substance, usually an oxide of iron, cobalt, or chromium. The coating is normally held on the tape with a special binder. , KidsTalk, so kids can record and play their own messages.
