Berkeley Systems' After Dark Screen Saver Spawns Line of Neckwear and Boxer Shorts; Wemco Inc. to Produce and Market the Apparel.
The agreement also includes silk and cotton boxer shorts. The apparel will ship to stores in March.
"The After Dark ties will be an incredible addition to our line as well as to any store's neckwear department. The artistic, whimsical nature of the After Dark screen saver is exactly what today's tie wearer is looking for: interesting, colorful images that express a personality," said Morris Mitchell, President and CEO of Wemco Inc. "We expect After Dark neckwear to take the world by storm."
"Wemco's success doing neckwear for other products, such as Tabasco Hot Sauce, made our decision to sign with them an easy one. We think neckwear is the perfect venue to showcase the After Dark characters and graphics," stated Shannon Foster, Director of Sales, OEM and Licensing at Berkeley Systems. "Our licensing agreement with Wemco is the next step in broadening the After Dark franchise."
The neckties and boxer shorts will feature some of the most popular After Dark displays including the famous Flying Toasters, Flying Toilets, a module from the Totally Twisted After Dark Screen Saver and Fish Pro, renderings of colorful exotic fish. With a lively color palette, fun graphics and the high tech computer theme, After Dark neckties and boxer shorts will appeal to a broad spectrum of customers, from computer techies to bankers to any of the more than 5 million After Dark users.
Wemco expects that the uniqueness of the After Dark ties will kickstart sluggish sales in the neckwear industry. Explains Morris Mitchell, "After Dark ties will give the industry a much needed shot in the arm. Berkeley Systems' success with the After Dark screen saver combined with our track record with Tabasco ties will help create a new term in the fashion lexicon: "Software You Can Wear."
Berkeley Systems is eager to expand its After Dark franchise to include various types of products including toys, jewelry and other gift and apparel items. Inquiries can be directed to Foster.
