The YMCA, which has operated the Center in the former Mall for seven years, currently serves 85 children per week and has provided much needed quality, affordable childcare to over 1,000 families that live and work in downtown Worcester.

"We are very pleased to be able to negotiate these leases with existing tenants," said Young Park, Berkeley's President. "All of these tenants provide important services to the public, and these services are important to the ongoing life of the City. Whether it's food, or consumer goods consumer goods

Rick MacPherson, Executive Director of the Central Community Branch YMCA, said that as the Mall closed, it became necessary to relocate or close the Center. After many months of careful review, the YMCA decided that it was critical for families that the Center be relocated to a downtown location.

"Berkeley agreed and has worked closely with us to identify and design an excellent new space that is in a convenient first floor location, with drop-off and pick-up availability," MacPherson said. "We are pleased that the Day Care Center will be a part of the CitySquare project, which we believe will bring jobs, people, residents and perhaps more importantly, new energy and a positive outlook to the area."

Everett Blodgett, the local Subway franchisee, is excited about the move. "It will be great to be on street level, and it will have a big impact on our sales," Blodgett said. "Berkeley has been really fair and easy to work with. They've been very good to us and to Subway corporate. We have a great relationship, and this has been an excellent process. We are delighted with the outcome."
