Berkeley Electronic Press The Berkeley Electronic Press is a new publisher dedicated to publishing quality-ranked peer-reviewed academic research quickly in electronic format. ; Berkeley, CA) has begun the publication of "Studies in Ethics, Law and Technology," a new online journal that focuses on the ethical and legal issues related to issues relevant to emerging technologies. An annual subscription costs $275 for academics and $825 for institutions.

BEP described the new journal as "at the intersection of theory and practice" and "combines conceptual analysis and normative deliberations in order to shape academic debates and policy decisions." The journal is designed to publish articles that explore the synergy between law and ethics and which provide a response to the opportunities and challenges provided by technological advances.

More specifically, the title focuses on technologies that are likely to have a significant impact on the environment, society, and/or humanity. Topics covered include biotechnology, nanotechnologies, neurotechnologies, information technologies, weapons and security technology, energy and fuel technology, space based technologies, new media and communications technologies.

The first issue includes articles on: the advantages and disadvantages of human enhancement, enhancement research, enhancements in sports, prenatal genetic enhancements, enhancement as eugenics eugenics (yjĕn`ĭks), study of human genetics and of methods to improve the inherited characteristics, physical and mental, of the human race. , procreative pro·cre·a·tive
