California's Peralta Community College District trustees have chosen Betty Inclan as Berkeley City College's new president. Before assuming the presidency, Inclan spent 14 years as associate superintendent and vice president of academic affairs at Allan Hancock College Allan Hancock College is a California public community college located in Santa Maria in northern Santa Barbara County. Approximately 13,000 credit and more than 5,500 noncredit and community services students enroll each semester.  in Santa Maria, Calif. Prior to her assignment at Hancock, she was division dean of literature and language arts at Modesto Junior College The Modesto Junior College is a community college located in Central Valley's Modesto, California. It often called by its acronym, MJC. Its current president is Dr. Richard Rose and its sports teams are referred to as the MJC Pirates.  for two years. Born in Cuba and raised in Florida, Inclan began a 27-year career in higher education as a teaching assistant at Kent State University in Ohio, where she taught English composition and literature. Later, as a community college English and English as a Second Language instructor, project director and department chair, she led major general education reform initiatives at Florida's Miami-Dade Community College. Multilingual in English, Spanish, and French, Inclan is a noted speaker on higher education issues. . She holds a master's degree in English from Kent State University in Ohio, and a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Miami. She also graduated from Miami-Dade Community College with an associate degree in English.
