Berkana(R) Wireless Inc., a provider of highly integrated CMOS RF solutions for cellular and other multi-mode wireless connectivity, today announced the appointments of Robert Fan as vice president of marketing and product management, Mike Choi as vice president of operations, and Shari VanLoo as acting chief financial officer.

In addition to Mr. Fan, Mr. Choi and Ms. VanLoo, the Berkana Wireless executive management team consists of co-founders Dr. Beomsup Kim and Dr. Cormac Conroy, both recognized experts in communications ICs. (Dr. Kim is CTO and vice president of engineering and Dr. Conroy is vice president of strategic marketing and business development.) ) and was also CEO/president and co-founder of Resonext Communications Inc., an 802.11 fabless semiconductor company A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab.  acquired by RFMD in 2002. Berkana's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, Sam Nakib, was previously a senior vice president of business development and tactical marketing at Cypress Semiconductors, Timing Technology Division.

Robert Fan is a 17-year veteran of the semiconductor industry, most recently responsible for driving the WLAN See wireless LAN.

 chipset marketing efforts at RFMD and serving as vice president of marketing and product management at Resonext where he defined and commercialized the world's first 802.11a chipset using a Zero IF CMOS transceiver. Previously, he spent more than nine years at Intel in applications, sales, marketing and management positions, including driving Intel's mobile business in the Asia Pacific region and marketing key mobile platform initiatives for 802.11, Bluetooth(TM) wireless technology and mobile CPU/core logic products. Mr. Fan holds B.S. Degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley The University of California, Berkeley is a public research university located in Berkeley, California, United States. Commonly referred to as UC Berkeley, Berkeley and Cal  and an M.S.E.E. from the University of Santa Clara.

Mike Choi joined Berkana as director of operations and quality in 2002, responsible for managing wafer foundry and assembly/test subcontractors, evaluation/test of RF devices and tape-out/packaging engineering support. As vice president of operations he will take on the additional responsibility for production ramp, device qualification, cost reduction and quality/reliability control. Mr. Choi has more than 25 years of semiconductor experience, most recently as director of product/test engineering in Cypress Semiconductor's Timing Technology Division. Previously, he was director of operations at IC Works where he was credited for ramping up the clock chip production to a 100Mu annual run rate. Mr. Choi also has held design and engineering management positions with Samsung Semiconductor USA and Intel. Mr. Choi earned a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Portland State University.

, has 17 years experience in financial management with companies in all stages of development, from startups through multi-billion-dollar global operations. Previously, Ms. VanLoo served as CFO for several private technology companies, including Reconnex Corporation, Virtela Communications and Resonext Communications. She played an instrumental role in the merger of Resonext with RFMD and in the IPO (Initial Public Offering) The first time a company offers shares of stock to the public.
