Berkana Wireless Adds Heavy-Hitting Industry Veterans to Company, Secures Funding.

Instruments Bring Depth to Berkana Board and Management Team

Berkana Wireless Inc., a provider of highly integrated CMOS RF solutions for wireless connectivity, announced that Dr. Albert Yu, retired Senior Vice President at Intel Corp., has been named to its board of directors, and Mr. Sam Nakib has been appointed as Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Business Development. Additionally, Berkana also announced that it has closed its $12.8 million Series B round of funding in December of 2002. In October 2001, Berkana raised a $10 million Series A round. The Series B round was led by Miramar Venture Partners, along with Authosis, ICCP, KTB Ventures and PTI Ventures. Hansol Capital and Storm Ventures, who led the Series A round, continue their support of Berkana in this additional round.

With the new personnel and funding, Berkana will continue to expand its position in the wireless semiconductor space. "We are extremely pleased to be joined by two senior semiconductor industry executives and to have closed an oversubscribed round of financing from high-quality US and international investors," said Dr. Cormac Conroy, president and CEO of Berkana Wireless. With the election of Dr. Albert Yu to its Board of Directors, Berkana is adding a semiconductor industry veteran. Dr. Yu was previously the Senior Vice President and head of the Intel Architecture Group. As such, he led Intel's microprocessor development for 16 years, spanning the development of the Intel 386 Processor to the latest Intel Pentium 4 processor. Mr. Nakib brings over 28 years of semiconductor sales and management experience to Berkana Wireless, most recently with Cypress Semiconductor, where he was Senior Vice President of Business Development & Tactical Marketing. Previously, he was at IC Works as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, where he grew revenue in excess of $70M. Subsequently, IC Works was acquired by Cypress Semiconductor. Before IC Works, he spent 18 years at Texas Instruments, serving in various senior international sales and management positions.
