Beringer Wines Top Two Popularity Polls.


ST. HELENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 1998--The wine-drinking public has ranked wines from Napa Valley's historic Beringer Vineyards at the top in two recent surveys.

Respondents named Beringer "the winery that makes the best Chardonnay in California" in a Readers' Choice poll conducted by Wine Spectator Wine Spectator is a lifestyle magazine that focuses on wine. Founded as a newsprint tabloid by Bob Morrisey in 1976, it was purchased three years later by publisher Marvin R. Shanken. In 2005, paid circulation was over 382,000 and the magazine reached an estimated 2.  magazine last March and reported in its June 30 issue.  Chardonnay as its Wine of the Year in 1996 and said "it's hard to find a better all-around winery in California these days than Beringer Vineyards."

The magazine also paid tribute to Beringer Wine Estates' other brands, saying that "Beringer's sister wineries, Napa Ridge, Chateau St. Jean, Meridian and Chateau Souverain make well-priced, high-quality Chardonnays as well."

In another recent survey, Wine & Spirits magazine's ninth annual "Restaurant Poll," reported in the April 1998 issue, Beringer Vineyards ranked third among the top 50 wine brands sold in restaurants. To gauge the public's wine preferences, the magazine asked owners and sommeliers at the restaurants highlighted in the popular Zagat Survey Zagat Survey (pronounced za-GAT)[1] was established by Tim and Nina Zagat in 1979 as a way to collect and correlate the ratings of restaurants by diners. For their first guide, covering New York City, the Zagats surveyed their friends.  to name the wines their customers order most.
