AUSTIN, Texas -- Winternals Software, a leading provider of Microsoft systems availability and performance solutions, today announced that Bergen Kommune, Norway, has chosen Winternals Defrag Manager 3.0 as the network defragmentation solution for approximately 11,000 Windows 2000 servers and workstations citywide. The product was selected for its ability to increase application and system performance, and reduce support requirements.

With 235,000 residents, Bergen Kommune is the second-largest city in Norway and a renowned center for oil exploration, shipping, environmental and oceanographic research. The city's IT staff maintains the computer infrastructure for government offices and public schools at approximately 600 locations. Defrag Manager 3.0 is being implemented to optimize the performance of servers and desktop computers throughout the city.

Another reason cited by Sunde for deploying Defrag Manager 3.0 is the anticipated reduction in help-desk calls that will occur at Bergen Kommune when using the product. "Defragmentation is an essential part of systems maintenance," he said. "And when a machine is properly maintained, most problems are eliminated. That means less tickets submitted to the help desk."

This process automatically defragments the paging files and Registry hives of remote systems using a method that is 100% compliant with Windows file system APIs for safety.
