"Bergana intends to apply its patent-pending CMOS OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) A digital transmission technique that uses a large number of carriers spaced apart at slightly different frequencies.  technology to deliver wireless semiconductor solutions that offer unmatched performance, cost-effectiveness and flexibility," said Bruce Sanguinetti, chief executive officer of Bergana. "We are excited to have the support of such top-tier VCs as Mobius Venture Capital, Blueprint Ventures and Advanced Technology Ventures in our mission to deliver this cornerstone technology for the next generation of broadband wireless data products and services."

This financing is expected to allow the company to complete the development of its initial products, which will be highly integrated CMOS system-on-a-chip solutions (including RF, Modem, and MAC) that implement the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.11a wireless LAN A local area network that transmits over the air typically in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz unlicensed frequency band. It does not require line of sight between sender and receiver. What is "high" speed is always a changing number. Wireless systems are typically slower than land-based, wireline networks. In the past, wireless broadband started at 250 Kbps, whereas land-based broadband was generally considered to start at T1  access standard. As part of this round of funding, Greg Galanos, managing director at Mobius Venture Capital; Brian Kinard, partner at Blueprint Ventures; and Wes Raffel, general partner at Advanced Technology Ventures, will join the company's board of directors.

"By combining industry-leading expertise in radio frequency CMOS circuit designs with enhanced coding algorithms, Bergana Communications will overcome current limitations of wireless semiconductor devices. The net result will be a generational leap in the performance of wireless devices," said Galanos. "The executive team's substantial business experience provides Bergana with access and understanding of key customer requirements that are necessary to building the next generation of high speed wireless chipsets."

"Bergana Communications is poised to be a leader in the burgeoning wireless LAN market, of which 802.11a and other OFDM solutions will be clear winners," said Kinard. "We are proud to be involved with such an impressive technology offering and management team as Bergana Communications."

"Advanced Technology Ventures is very excited to be investing in Bergana Communications' OFDM wireless chipset platform," said Raffel. "The emerging 802.11a market is an excellent entry point to showcase Bergana's technological advantages. We are very excited to work with the company's world-class team and an exceptional investor syndicate."
