Hopkins 2. Univ. Press, United States Holocaust Museum. 250p. illus, maps. bibliog. index, c2006.0-8018-8358-X. $29.95. SA* First published in 1993 and now available in a revised large-format paperback edition, this volume includes newly obtained archival information and photographs and other updated material. It focuses "on the story of the Holocaust that is told in the Museum," drawing on the museum's documents, photos, oral histories and other resources to tell the horrifying tale of the "Final Solution." This is not a catalog catalog, descriptive list, on cards or in a book, of the contents of a library. Assurbanipal's library at Nineveh was cataloged on shelves of slate. The first known subject catalog was compiled by Callimachus at the Alexandrian Library in the 3d cent. The text is clear and well organized, and the many photos--often appalling, such as those of emaciated e·ma·ci·ate tr. & intr.v. e·ma·ci·at·ed, e·ma·ci·at·ing, e·ma·ci·ates To make or become extremely thin, especially as a result of starvation. prisoners and corpses--are carefully chosen. This beautifully produced book is worth considering for purchase in all libraries. Paula Rohrlick, KLIATT |
