Bentley releases newest version of MicroStation for OS/2 Warp; Company expands its lead in platform choices and IBM support, also announces AIX and PowerPC products.


ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 1996--A/E/C SYSTEMS '96- Bentley Systems Bentley Systems, Incorporated, provides software for the "Design, construction and operation of the world's infrastructure". The company’s software serves the building, plant, civil, and geospatial vertical markets in the areas of architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) , Inc. (Exton, PA), a leader in engineering software and services, announced that it is now shipping MicroStation 95, the newest version of its flagship product A primary product of a company, which is typically why the company was founded and/or what made it well known. For example, MS-DOS, Windows and the Microsoft Office suite have been flagship products of Microsoft. CorelDRAW is a flagship product of Corel Corporation. , for OS/2 Warp. In widening its market lead in platform choices and support for IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  environments, the company also announced that MicroStation 95 for PowerPC-based computers running Windows NT is shipping and that MicroStation 95 for AIX (Advanced Interactive eXecutive) IBM's Unix-based operating system which runs on its Intellistation workstations and pSeries, p5, iSeries and i5 server families.  has entered into beta test.

MicroStation 95 was certified by IBM in their "Ready for OS/2 Warp" program. Users can now receive the popular product optimized for OS/2 Warp, including its native user interface and environment. The OS/2 Warp operating system has itself surged in popularity, now totaling over 13 million users. It recently received InfoWorld's Overall Readers Choice Product of the Year award for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year.

Bentley senior vice president of marketing, Yoav Etiel, comments, "We are finding that MicroStation 95 and OS/2 Warp are exceptionally well-matched products whose worldwide users share similar enterprise-wide requirements. More and more, MicroStation users performing large-scale engineering are selecting OS/2 Warp and IBM environments." He adds, "Most of all, organizations want free choice in implementing systems for today and in taking advantage of technological advances in the future."

In related news, Bentley announced that it has been awarded the contract to supply the engineering automation systems to the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department. The department will purchase over 335 licenses of MicroStation 95 running on OS/2 Warp and AIX during the coming year. Missouri thus becomes the forty-second state department of transportation (DOT) to adopt MicroStation as its engineering standard.

The availability of MicroStation 95 for OS/2 Warp confirms Bentley's ongoing leadership in offering users the widest range of platform support. MicroStation 95 supports a full range of computers and operating systems including DOS; Windows; Windows 95; OS/2 Warp; Windows NT for Intel-based, PowerPC, and DEC Alpha AXP The brand name Digital gave to its first family of Alpha-based computers. Upgrades to MicroStation 95 are included at no additional charge to subscribers of Bentley SELECT(SM), the company's premiere support and licensing program. The MicroStation 95 upgrade is available to other commercial MicroStation registered users for $895 U.S. For new users, MicroStation 95 is priced at $3995 U.S., $3750 for additional copies to Bentley SELECT subscribers. Complete MicroStation 95 kits contain a copy of MicroStation 95 and a copy of MicroStation V5 for organizations that require the previous version.
