Bentley and Baystate bring popular mechanical productivity tools to MicroStation; DRAFT-PAK Mechanical offers industry standard design parts and automated GD&T to be sold by Bentley.

EXTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sept. 12, 1995 - Bentley Systems, Inc., the leader in professional computer-aided design products and services to engineers, architects, drafters, and organizations whose overall success relies on computer-aided design, and Baystate Technologies today announced DRAFT-PAK(R) Mechanical, a mechanical engineering productivity package for the MicroStation(R) range of products. DRAFT-PAK Mechanical offers a full set of industry standard mechanical design parts and automatic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T). As a "Class of 95" product, it also utilizes new MicroStation 95(TM) capabilities including AccuDraw(TM) for intelligent drawing. Overall, the product accelerates time-consuming design and drafting operations and streamlines the mechanical design process.

DRAFT-PAK Mechanical is based on technology in use at thousands of sites and contains 2D, 3D wireframe, and 3D solid parametric versions of over 600 industry standard features, fasteners, and mechanical elements. Included are holes, pockets, bolts, screws, gears, bearings, and sprockets, all of which can be visually previewed and dynamically edited. The product's integrated GD&T capability, which automatically creates manufacturing tolerances, supports industry drafting standards ISO, ANSI, DIN, JIS, and KS.

"Class of 95" products, like DRAFT-PAK Mechanical, leverage new MicroStation 95 technology that dramatically increases user productivity, especially in the case of drafting. Specifically, "Class of 95" products feature a streamlined graphical user interface, the new AccuDraw and SmartLine(TM) drawing technologies, as well as a multi-platform MicroStation BASIC language and development environment.

DRAFT-PAK Mechanical was integrated into the MicroStation products using the MicroStation Development Language (MDL(TM)). It works seamlessly with MicroStation PowerDraft(TM) for 2D/3D high-productivity drafting, MicroStation 95 for 2D/3D design and drafting, MicroStation Modeler(TM) for 3D solid-based design, and MicroStation Masterpiece(TM) for high-end engineering visualization. DRAFT-PAK Mechanical is interoperable across MicroStation products and all geometry types. Project teams can freely share designs containing a mix of 2D, 3D wireframe, and 3D solid parts. Users can upgrade from one MicroStation product to another, while preserving all DRAFT-PAK Mechanical project data and functionality.

DRAFT-PAK Mechanical, a MicroStation PowerTool(TM), will be distributed by Bentley and sold through MicroStation VARs and partners worldwide. It will be available for Intel-based PCs running DOS, Microsoft(R) Windows(TM), Windows NT(TM), Windows 95, DEC Alpha NT, Apple Power Macintosh(TM), and other MicroStation-supported UNIX platforms. Available in November 1995, DRAFT-PAK Mechanical is priced at $625US, or $2490US as a package with MicroStation PowerDraft.
