Bentley Ships MicroStation GeoOutlook for Accessing and Analyzing Geoengineering Data.

EXTON, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1997--

New Decision-making Tool Boosts Productivity of Planners,

Managers, and Field-based Workers

Bentley Systems Bentley Systems, Incorporated, provides software for the "Design, construction and operation of the world's infrastructure". The company’s software serves the building, plant, civil, and geospatial vertical markets in the areas of architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) , Inc., today announced the shipment of MicroStation GeoOutlook(TM), a decision-making tool for people viewing geoengineering data. MicroStation GeoOutlook is a low-cost, easy-to-use desktop and mobile tool for accessing and analyzing geoengineering data. A stand-alone product, it is intended for planners, managers, and field-based workers who participate in geoengineering projects but don't need the data creation abilities or full power of MicroStation GeoGraphics(TM).

The shipment of MicroStation GeoOutlook is part of a continued expansion of the company's fast-growing geoengineering product line with tools that increase the value of geoengineering data and boost the productivity of geoengineering environments.

Dr. Jean-Baptiste Monnier, vice president of geoengineering at Bentley, states, "Many managers and workers in the field have difficulty viewing the data they need to accomplish their geoengineering work - they want a simple to use environment, but require high-level query and interaction capabilities. Now with MicroStation GeoOutlook, users in public works public works

, for example, can easily and quickly access the data they require." He adds, "This approach opens up geoengineering data to the enterprise and gives them intelligent data access for scheduled maintenance queries, analysis of values, events, and transactions."

"MicroStation GeoOutlook gives our engineers and field technicians instant access to all the data they need," notes Peter van Muyden, GIS (1) (Geographic Information System) An information system that deals with spatial information. Often called "mapping software," it links attributes and characteristics of an area to its geographic location.  systems analyst at Edmonton Power (Alberta, Canada). "While working from a field vehicle, they can easily access tabular information in our Oracle database and view Edmonton Power GIS data along with telephone, gas, water, drainage, and traffic data. We've started with twenty copies of MicroStation GeoOutlook and find the implementation to be very straightforward. It provides a low-cost way for us to expand access to engineering information."

MicroStation GeoOutlook offers map data querying, basic spatial analysis (Data West Research Agency definition: see GIS glossary.) Analytical techniques to determine the spatial distribution of a variable, the relationship between the spatial distribution of variables, and the association of the variables of an area. , graphical presentation, feature management, and reporting. Users can simultaneously view vector and raster The horizontal lines (scan lines) displayed on a TV or computer monitor. This is the origin of the term "raster graphics," which is the major category that all bitmapped images and video frames fall into (GIF, JPEG, MPEG, etc.).  image data. Also, the tool connects to a variety of desktop or enterprise databases, including Oracle, Informix, and Microsoft Access A database program for Windows, available separately or included in the Microsoft Office suite. Access is programmable using Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Access can read Paradox, dBASE and Btrieve files, and using ODBC, Microsoft SQL Server, SYBASE SQL Server and Oracle data. , providing powerful RDBMS (Relational DataBase Management System) See relational database and DBMS.
